Park It
Twelve parking jobs. They get ridiculous. Back to the game
How to play
Drive into the parking space marked with a red dashed line and a P, and stop. When your whole car is inside the lines, straight, and stopped, a green pen circle closes around it and you’ve parked. On a keyboard use the arrow keys or WASD (up to drive, down to brake and reverse) and press R to restart a level. On a phone, drag the steering wheel left and right and hold the drive or reverse pedal. The clock starts when you first touch the controls.
Each job gives up to three stars: three for no bumps and under the target time, two for at most two bumps and under 1.8 times the target, one for getting it in at all. Once you’ve parked, a dashed ghost of your best run drives alongside you.
How to parallel park (in real life too)
- Pull up alongside the car in front of the gap, about half a metre away.
- Reverse slowly until your rear bumper lines up with theirs, then turn the wheel fully toward the curb.
- When your car is at about 45 degrees, straighten the wheel and keep reversing.
- As your front clears the car ahead, turn the wheel fully away from the curb to swing the nose in.
- Straighten up and centre yourself in the gap.
The game’s cars steer like real ones: the back wheels follow the front, so the car pivots around its rear axle. That’s why reversing into a tight space is usually easier than driving in nose first: when you reverse, the steered front wheels swing the car around the rear axle, so the back tucks into the gap.
Why black ice is so dangerous
Tyres grip the road sideways as well as forwards. On ice that sideways grip almost disappears, so the car keeps sliding in the direction it was already going even when the wheels point somewhere else. Driving instructors tell you to brake early, steer gently and avoid sudden moves. The ice level is me making you do that.
Questions people ask
- How do I park on a phone?
- Drag the steering wheel at the bottom left sideways to steer, and hold the drive or reverse pedal at the bottom right. Small, gentle movements work best.
- Why won’t it count me as parked?
- Your whole car must be inside the red dashed lines, roughly straight, and nearly stopped. On “Back it in”, the car must face out of the bay, so you have to reverse in.
- Is my progress saved?
- Yes, your stars are saved in your browser, and the game reopens at the first job you haven’t finished.
- Can I replay a level?
- Press R (or Try again) to restart the current job. Finish all twelve and the last card lists every job with your stars and best time, so you can pick any of them to replay.
